Psychotherapy with me

Life is not easy! Getting yourself together, making a living, family and relationships... for many of us it can seem like a mystery that we don't know how to solve.

Personally, I have extensive experience of being lost in this mystery, and of sitting with others in their confusion. Over the years, I have developed a keen ability to see clear patterns that can provide answers to why you have ended up so lost. By putting this pattern together, my clients and I usually find clues and inspiration for how to get back on track in life. A lot is about a shift in perspective. New perspectives can make an almost hopeless situation see the light again.

My theoretical background since the psychology program in Gothenburg is both psychodynamic therapy (PDT) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). I then furthered my education first in trauma-focused CBT when I worked at a PTSD clinic for several years. Later, I chose to specialize in the psychodynamic short-term therapeutic method ISTDP, which I have also been teaching since 2016. I would describe ISTDP as a more intensive and direct psychodynamic method. Today, my style has developed in such a way that I always look for what is causing the problems today and how the problems are perpetuated by the client themselves based on narratives, behaviors and thought patterns that the client often unconsciously holds onto. I place great importance on helping the client gain insight into how and why they themselves contribute to their own suffering, so that they can consciously make choices that instead increase well-being.

Liv is not your typical psychologist as she is not afraid to tell the truth in a clear and honest way. She has developed her own style over the years based on principles from ISTDP, IFS, CBT and Psychedelic therapy.

ISTDP

ISTDP (intensive short-term psychotherapy) is a modern psychodynamic therapy method that is adapted to different people's needs and circumstances. It has been called "No bullshit therapy" by patients.

ISTDP is particularly helpful for those with relationship problems, depression, psychosomatic problems and anxiety, for those who have difficulty managing emotions/are out of touch with their feelings.

The treatment has a clear focus and the therapist is constantly challenging in relation to the defenses the patient uses to avoid certain truths, but with a simultaneously ever-present empathy for the function of the defenses and the patient's painful feelings towards truths.

ISTDP is an intensive method that can lead to lasting changes in a short time when therapist and patient are fully engaged in the work. The method has growing research support and has also been found effective in complex, long-term problems and psychosomatic conditions.

Psychedelic integration

With a psychedelic substance as a catalyst, you can gain access to larger parts of your consciousness, and get out of the repetitive pattern that your brain may have been stuck in. It can help you return to the openness that your consciousness was in as a child, and you are given the opportunity to see yourself from a more open, flexible and loving perspective.

In addition to a potentially spiritual and strongly meaningful experience, sessions with a psychedelic substance can help you move forward from a stagnant state such as depression and anxiety. Like conventional psychotherapy, it is not about quick fixes, but about in-depth work to get closer to yourself and how you want to live your life. The time after a psychedelic experience is particularly important as the new insights may need to be processed and integrated with one's previous way of looking at oneself and life.

Stop before Start

Stop before Start is a concept I developed based on my 15 years of work as a psychologist and my own personal experiences. Based on the concept, I have created an online course that you can choose as it is or together with coaching sessions.

Stop before Start is based on simple principles but can bring profound changes if you are committed to understanding and completing each step of the process. It is about stopping distracting yourself from yourself, sitting with the uncomfortable void or feelings that then make themselves felt, before you create new habits for yourself.

True change that lasts a lifetime requires more than just starting new healthy habits. My experience as a therapist and from my private life is that you first have to stop the unhealthy habits before you start the healthy ones.
